Emotes and slaps in the lobby: how to liven things up (and knock your friends over)
In the TryToAct lobby, you don't just wait for the game to start: you dance, you show off and you slap your friends until they fall over. Here's everything you need to know about emotes and slaps, and how to unlock the best ones.
The lobby is where it all starts
Before every multiplayer game, you and your friends meet up in the lobby: a little 3D room with armchairs, a beanbag, a coffee table full of popcorn… and your clapperboard characters sitting on them. While everyone picks a pack, there are two ways to liven things up: emotes and slaps.

Slaps: knock your friends over
It's the players' favorite feature, and it's devastatingly simple: click (or tap) a friend's character in the lobby. They take a slap, complete with the sound effect, a little puff of air and a badge over their head. Everyone in the lobby sees it happen at the same time.
The secret: chain your slaps
One slap gives them a jolt. But several slaps in a row is where it gets funny:
• Every slap that lands within about a second and a half of the previous ones adds to the combo.
• From the second slap on, your friend has a chance of falling flat on their back. The more you chain, the higher the chance.
• On the seventh quick slap, the fall is guaranteed.
• Once down, the character stays sprawled out for 5 seconds, arms and legs in the air. During that time they can't be slapped again: let the victim get back up with dignity.

What you see on screen is what video games call a ragdoll: the character turns into a rag doll and collapses in an (almost) realistic way. Guaranteed laughs every time.
The rules
• Slaps only work in the lobby, before the game starts. Once the game is on, it's time to dub.
• You can't slap yourself (we checked, it's for your own good).
• There need to be at least two of you in the lobby. A little bubble reminds you the first time: "Click your friends to knock them over!"
• Slaps are free and unlimited, for everyone.
Emotes: dance, show off and taunt
Emotes are short animations your character plays on demand: a dance, a gesture, a pose. In TryToAct, you launch them from the emote wheel:
• On PC: press E to open the wheel, then pick your emote, or use keys 1 to 8 directly.
• On mobile: tap the emote wheel button on screen, then the emote of your choice.
You can equip up to 8 emotes on your wheel, from the wardrobe. And they're not just for the lobby: during a co-op game, while you wait for your turn to dub, you can play one too. A short message then tells everyone who just played it.

The victory emote
Among your equipped emotes, you can pick one as your victory animation: your character plays it automatically on the podium when you win a game. One last chance to rub it in.

How to unlock emotes
Every emote except Wave is unlocked in the wardrobe, which you open by clicking your coin balance at the top of the screen. There are three ways to get there:
• Play: every finished game and every daily quest earns coins. A good evening of play is enough for a first emote.
• Come back every day: play 7 days in a row and you get a free emote of your choice, without spending a single coin. Every new 7-day milestone unlocks another one.
• Take the shortcut: coin packs start at $2.99 (£2.49 in the UK, €2.99 in Europe), from the "+" button next to your balance. Payment goes through Stripe, a secure payment provider.
Once unlocked, an emote is yours for good. And none of them gives you an edge in game: they're just for style, and for winding up your friends.
5 challenges for your next lobby
• First one down: everyone slaps everyone, and the last one still sitting picks the pack.
• Dance-off: everyone plays their best emote at the same time, and the others vote for the funniest.
• Revenge: whoever got knocked down gets to slap back… if they can manage it before the game starts.
• Charades: play an emote and get the others to guess which movie it reminds you of.
• Win in style: pick your victory emote in secret before the game, and only reveal it on the podium.
