Multiplayer dubbing game: how to play with friends
TryToAct’s multiplayer lets up to 4 players dub the same scene in co-op, each on their own character, or up to 12 in VS. Take turns to answer each other’s lines, or all record at once for a gloriously out-of-sync result.
How multiplayer works
In multiplayer, up to 4 players in co-op (and up to 12 in VS) dub the same scene together. There are two co-op approaches to sharing out the characters: “Taking turns” (the default), where you record line by line while listening to everyone else’s takes, and “All at once”, where everyone records their own lines without hearing the others, which often ends in hilarious mismatches. A VS mode also lets each player dub the whole scene on their own so you can compare versions.

Creating or joining a lobby
One player creates the game: they import or pick one of their packs, and the game generates a 5-character invite code. Share that code with your friends and they join the same lobby: up to 3 more players can come in.
There are public games too: instead of playing with friends, you can be matched at random with other players online, to meet new faces and discover new packs.

Sharing out the characters
Once everyone is in the lobby, the scene’s characters are shared out automatically between the players (taking turns if the scene has more characters than players). The host can reassign roles before starting, if someone is set on dubbing a particular character.
How a game plays out
Once the game starts, each player dubs only their own character’s lines. In “Taking turns” mode, the game moves forward line by line and everyone can hear the recordings in real time and react to them. In “All at once” mode, everyone records on their own, at their own pace, without hearing the others.
When the whole scene has been dubbed, the game reveals the final combined result. That’s the big moment of the game, especially for discovering someone’s improvisation or everyone else’s mismatched dialogue!

Saving and sharing the result
Once the scene has been revealed, any player can export the full dub to keep or share it. The game also keeps a leaderboard of the best voice actors and the community’s most played packs: a way to measure yourself against others beyond a game among friends.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to play multiplayer?
Yes, a lobby seat is tied to an account: creating one is free and quick.
Can more than 4 people play?
A co-op game holds up to 4 players, so everyone has a character to dub. In VS, where everyone dubs the whole scene, a room holds up to 12 players.
Can you hear the other players recording?
It depends on the mode: in “Taking turns”, yes, you hear each take as it comes. In “All at once”, everyone records on their own and hears everything at the end.
