Dubbing movies and TV shows: the concept and the packs available
How dubbing scenes from movies, TV shows, anime and TV works on TryToAct, and how to import or make your own packs.
Dubbing movies and TV shows: the concept
Dubbing a movie or TV scene means taking a well-known clip (an iconic dialogue, a memorable line) and putting your own voice on it instead of the actors’. The idea has been around for ages in professional dubbing; TryToAct turns it into a game anyone can play, with no studio or special gear.
Packs bring together short scenes ready to dub. Import a pack shared by the community or make your own from a video you’re allowed to use (see the guide to making packs).
The pack categories available
Packs are organised by type of content, so you can quickly find an iconic scene or discover something new:
- Movies: film scenes, from the classics to recent releases.
- TV series: clips from French and international shows.
- TV: shows, interviews and television moments that became iconic.
- Cartoons: scenes from animated films and series.
- Anime: clips from popular Japanese anime.
- Gaming: cutscenes and standout moments from video games.
- Sport: commentary and memorable sporting moments.
- Music and memes: short clips that went viral.
How to choose a pack
From the home page, open “Solo dubbing” to find your packs and your creations. Each pack shows how many scenes and characters it has, so you can tell at a glance whether it suits a quick solo session or a game with friends.
Nothing stops you from importing your own video to make a new pack, either: that’s what Creator mode is for, explained in its own guide.
Playing a movie or TV scene
Once a pack is open, just pick a scene and start recording: the original sound disappears, the picture keeps rolling, and it’s up to you to set the tone. You can then listen back, adjust, share the result, or replay it in multiplayer to dub the scene with several different voices.
Frequently asked questions
Can I dub a scene from my favourite film?
If you already have a pack with that scene, import it from “Solo dubbing”. Otherwise, you can make your own pack in Creator mode with a clip you’re allowed to use.
Are packs updated regularly?
Players can make packs and share their links. Find them in the community spaces, then import the packs you want to play.
Can I dub a whole series?
Packs bring together short scenes rather than full episodes, so they stay quick to dub. A series can have several packs, one per standout scene.
