A free Mimic Party alternative you can play in your browser

Mimic Party started a small craze this fall: a sound plays, you get a single take to imitate it into your mic, and an AI scores you. The game is paid on Steam and only exists on PC and mobile. If you want the same idea without buying or installing anything, for up to twelve players, that's exactly what TryToAct's Battle mode does.

The short answer

There is no official browser version of Mimic Party. FoliesApp's game is paid on Steam (PC) and free with in-app purchases on Android and iPhone, for 1 to 5 players online. To play the same concept for free with no download, TryToAct's Battle mode launches from any browser and takes up to 12 players per room.

What exactly is Mimic Party?

Mimic Party is a voice game from FoliesApp, an independent French studio. It came out on Steam on August 27, 2026 and is also available on Android and iPhone (official game page). The idea is simple: you listen to a reference sound, you get one take to reproduce it with your voice, and an AI scores your take on melody, rhythm and attacks. Between rounds, a wheel hands out points, multipliers or sabotages against the other players.

It's a great party game. It has three limits when all you want is to start a game with friends tonight:

• On PC, you have to buy it on Steam, and everyone needs a copy.

• No browser version: on a Mac, a Chromebook or a work laptop, it gets complicated.

• Games are capped at 5 players online.

Also watch out for sites offering a "Mimic Party APK" or a free download: the studio itself warns that fake versions are going around. If you want the real game, get it from Steam, Google Play or the App Store.

TryToAct's Battle mode: the same idea, in your browser

We added a Battle mode to TryToAct, inspired by Mimic Party. TryToAct is not affiliated with FoliesApp: this is our own take on the idea, designed to be played without installing anything.

Here's how a game goes:

• The host creates a room and picks up to 3 sound packs: memes, TV shows, gaming, animals…

• Everyone hears the sound for the round.

• Each player records a single take into the mic, as long as the original sound.

• The takes are played back one by one on the stage of the 3D theater, and four judges hold up a score out of 10 (here's how they score).

• After 1 to 20 rounds (5 by default), the final leaderboard crowns the best mimic.

What's different from Mimic Party

• It's free and it plays in the browser, on a computer or a phone. No Steam, no APK.

• Up to 12 players in the same room, compared with 5 online in Mimic Party.

• Power-ups, not sabotage: each round, everyone gets a card. It ranges from "nothing at all" to "Bribed judge" or "Opening night", which doubles your points. No card ever takes points away: luck can help you a little, never sink you.

• You make your own packs: upload a sound or a video, cut up to 3 seconds, publish (step-by-step guide). Your pack goes straight into the library.

• The same account as for dubbing: between two battles, you can dub scenes from movies and TV shows with the same friends.

What Mimic Party does better

To be fair: Mimic Party's sabotage wheel creates moments of chaos we don't have, and the game has a real mobile app. If you already own it on Steam and your group has five players or fewer, there's no reason to switch. Our Battle mode is for everything else: when someone doesn't have the game, when there are lots of you, or when you want to be playing thirty seconds after sharing a link. How to start a battle right now

Go to the TryToAct home page, click the Mimic the voice card, sign in (Google, Discord or Twitch) and send the room link or code to your friends. They have nothing to install: all they need is a mic and a recent browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari).

One tip: wear headphones. Otherwise the round's sound leaks back into your mic, and the judges won't go easy on you. And if you're planning a proper night, our guide to hosting a game night will help with the rest.
